Here's a good reason to never need Maya ever again(modeling/texturing wise).... this is CGI at an amazing level.

Anywho, we all hate Autodesk =P
:iconbirdiefoot:
I HAVE MAYA 2010 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
:iconru-a-locke:
Laugh while you can, hoo-man. xp

I heard Mr. Melsom got all new machines and maya 2009. All quad cores machines man with LCD screens! Anywho, do you need the torrent for Maya 2010?
:iconru-a-locke:
I honestly don't know if my laptop can handle it all. My school will probably get 2010 eventually. Bedsides, I got a shiny new 120GB HDD. Storage is no longer a problem

Well in time we all will learn to stop using our laptops for 3D and buy really powerful desktops(like the ones used at Siggraph 2009). Man one guy from Autodesk was using a desktop with an 8 Core processor threaded, with the best grahpics card. He was so proud of that machine, he opened up XSI just to show how he could add millions of polys and it would still animate very well.

Hey, so I researched some stuff and did some more digital tutors tutorials. I've figured out why our Twilight Town wouldn't render very fast or well. A majority of the problem was our procedure with the textures. Our maps were excessively large, much more than they needed to be. But we really didn't know better at the time. Another problem is, maya shaders don't render as well or quickly when using mental ray. Mental ray has the equivalents for all the maya shaders that we should have been using; however, they require more knowledge and skill to set up. Also if we had used mental ray stand alone, the maya shaders wouldn't have even loaded in the render and the render would have crashed. Poor Mr. Melsom bought mental ray without knowing all this ahead of time xD
